Helping Your Family Breathe Healthy & Clean Air
Naturally, most people’s first consideration when it comes to the air in the home is how hot or cold it is. Many people never think beyond that to the quality of the air, or in other word the cleanliness of the air.
There is a growing problem with indoor air quality (IAQ). As homes today are built with energy efficiency in mind, we see lower energy usage and greater efficiency. The “leaking” home costs more money to heat and cool so it makes seal up all those gaps. There is a downside to this trend and that is the impact on indoor air quality. The air in your home loses its freshness because it is replaced far less frequently with new outside air. This makes treating the air in your home more important than ever. Lincoln Heating & Air recommends several products and services to keep the air in your home healthy and breathable. We’ll talk about them in just a minute.
Pollutants in the indoor air are common, among those pollutants most frequently found are mold, bacteria, viruses, allergens, odors, and smoke. There are several products that have found creative ways to address this. Many of them have major downsides like high levels of maintenance required or even harmful byproducts like ozone. At Lincoln Heating & Air we have narrowed the tough decision down to two products that fit our high standards for quality, effectiveness, and convenience.
Air Purifying Products:
An iWave air purifier installs into your heating and cooling system to clean the air in your living space. As air passes over the iWave, it produces ions that reduce the levels of mold, bacteria, viruses, allergens, odors, and smoke, creating a healthy environment. It even eliminates static electricity all while creating zero negative side effects like ozone.
This patented technology called needlepoint bipolar ionization (NPBI) creates equal amounts of positive and negative ions. The positive and negative ions eliminate the unfortunate side effect of single polarization ion air cleaners which leave black marks by the duct register. When these positive and negative ions enter the air, they attach to passing pollutants and gases, breaking them down into harmless compounds like oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and water vapor
When the ions come in contact with viruses, bacteria, or mold, they remove the hydrogen molecules which effectively kills these pollutants The ions also attach to allergens like pollen and smoke, causing them to band together until they are large enough to be caught by your ventilation system’s air filter. This process is proven by independent laboratory testing to be both safe and effective.
One downside to ion generators is the need to clean the needlepoints. The iWave-R has eliminated that need. It is self cleaning and 100% maintenance free. Once it’s installed you’ll be breathing cleaner air and don’t have to give I a second thought. The product comes with a three year warranty.
The iWave-M operates using these same principles but if designed specifically for mini split systems. So if your home has gone ductless. You can still experience the same great benefits of needlepoint bipolar ionization to breath clean air.
APCO stands for Advanced Photocatalytic Oxidation. APCO is a proven method and easily understood. We all know how sunlight breaks things down. The APCO operates using the same principle. The APCO whole house air purifier installs into the ductwork of a heating and cooling system. This technology cleans the air using a combination of activated carbon and UV-C light that eliminates air pollutants. The activated carbon catches air pollutants and the UV light breaks it down to harmless materials.
The APCO System eliminates mold, bacteria, viruses, allergens, odors, and smoke, without releasing harmful ozone into the air. In fact, it actually removes ozone from the air.
The APCO System comes with a lifetime warranty on all parts except the UV lamp. The lamp is the only maintenance required for this system. It needs to be replaced every few years. The activated carbon matrix is self cleaning.

Humidifiers are used to keep your home’s humidity levels from dropping too low by adding moisture to the air. If your air is dry, as most air is here in Northern Nevada, it’s a good idea to look into installing a humidifier to combat that problem.
Some people want humidification to improve comfort for themselves, breathing in dry air is often uncomfortable and low humidity air can cause dry, cracked skin. Others want to increase the humidity in their homes to protect high quality hardwood floors and other humidity dependent home features like furniture. Whatever your reason, Lincoln Heating & Air is ready to address the need for you. Just like with the air purifiers we use, we have sorted through the products in the marketplace and have discovered a humidifier that meets our high standards for quality, effectiveness, and convenience to the customer. That is the Aprilaire 800LC Humidifier.
Aprilaire 800LC Humidifier:
Furnaces and air conditioning systems both remove humidity from the air. When you are in Northern Nevada there isn’t much humidity to spare! That can make the air in your home uncomfortable and inconvenient. There are several downsides to humidity dropping too low, for example, static electricity, damage to humidity sensitive furnishings, breathing issues, especially aggravation of asthma symptoms, and dry uncomfortable skin.
The Aprilaire 800LC central humidification system is an effective solution to these problems. These units use water and electrodes to generate humidity and keep your air comfortable. The humidity circulates through the home via your duct system. This system comes with a 5 year warranty. Maintenance is minimal and consists of replacing a filtration canister every 6 to 12 months. The key to a properly functioning humidifier is a careful and professional installation. So call Lincoln Heating & Air to have it done right.
The most important function of air filters is to protect your HVAC system. It keeps debris from accumulating inside the system and reducing efficiency and functionality. If the coil inside your system gets clogged with debris, it becomes a real challenge to get it clean again. A quality filter, changed at the appropriate intervals, keeps this from happening. A non-pleated air filter should be replaced or at least checked every three months of active service. When light does not readily pass through the filter, it should be replaced.
Using pleated air filters is an effective way of improving your systems filtration. While this produces cleaner air it also causes more strained airflow. The filter media is less porous, and as a result it is more difficult for everything to get passed it, including air. In all cases, pleated air filters need to be replaced more often than non-pleated filters to minimize the negative side effects to better filtration.
Our professional technicians can check for sufficient air flow and make recommendations as to what filters would be best for your situation.
High-Efficiency Air Filters:
High-efficiency air filtration can benefit people with allergies or other respiratory ailments. These filters remove many more pollutants than a standard non-pleated or even pleated filter. While these filtration features can be a great benefit, great care must be taken in designing and installing them to prevent the filter from causing the system to function poorly. It is critical that high efficiency filters are changed at the intervals prescribed by the manufacturer. It is often best practice to have a regular maintenance plan if your system includes high efficiency filtration.
Lincoln Heating & Air recommends the Aprilaire 2410 Filter Media System. This product traps 97% of mold spores, bacteria, fungi, pollen, pet dander, and dust. It also causes a low pressure drop which will prevent the negative side effects of high quality filtration. This product comes with a 5 year warranty and is very low maintenance. The filter media, which provides 10X the filtration capacity of a standard filter, needs to be replaced just once a year.
